Citroen in the beginning of the 21st century faces the future with optimism. It keeps releases new models very frequently and some of them end up in production or they might exhibit the company’s R&D capabilities as concept cars. There is also an immense difference of style and quality between Citroen and DS brand. This differentiation is due to the dwindling of sales in France and the rest of Europe. The PSA Group decided to cater Citroen brand to low cost market. Peugeot would aim for mid-cost market such as Alfa Romeo and VW and DS brand would aim for the luxury brands such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
DS Wild Rubis concept debuted in Shanghai Auto show 2013. It’s the brands SUV. Taking in mind the vehicle’s styling, it’s exceptional fit and finish and it’s size it is clear it aims for models such as the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz M – Class. Its dimensions are 15.4 feet in length, 6.4 feet in width, it has a height of 5.2 feet and it sits on a set of aerodynamically-styled, 21-inch wheels. It’s no surprise the Wild Rubis is revealed in the Chinese Auto show. Like the Metropolis and Numéro 9 before it, the DS Wild Rubis is being targeted at the Chinese market where Citroen sees great potential.
Another new model for Citroen is the Cactus. This model is designed to preview Citroen’s C line for the future. The program begun with the C-Cactus concept in 2007 Frankfurt Motor show. Its measurements –are 4,210mm long, 1,750mm wide and 1,530mm high. Those are the dimensions of a compact hatchback with also a high ground clearance and reduced overhang. The ‘Airbumps’ on the sides and bumpers, which are made of a spongy material, include air capsules that absorb impact. This is to protect from scratches and everyday wear and tear.
Citroen’s new luxury salon DS 5LS has been unveiled aiming at the Chinese market and priced as an Audi A3 sedan. The format of the model is conventional as a three-box sedan measuring 4,700mm long, 1,840mm wide and 1,500mm high on a wheelbase of 2,710mm. Inside the materials that predominate is wood, metal and semi-aniline leather. The time in which it is going to be put into production is not revealed.
