Allegedly new Jeepster, which will be based on Fiat, is likely to make its debut at Geneva Motor Show in March 2014. Its spy images are doing rounds on the Internet since December. It will be based on Fiat 500X the compact crossover. It will come in both front wheel drive and 4WD variants. Jeepster will have a design linking it to the iconic Willys MB Jeep.
Possible powertrains could be either the 1.3-liter turbo diesel, or the Fiat 500 L’s 160-hp 1.4-liter turbo-4 diesel and potentially Fiat’s 0.9-liter Twin Air two-cylinder. A six-speed manual will serve as the standard transmission in base-level Jeepsters, but a six-speed dual-clutch automatic will handle shifting duties for the volume models. It is likely to go in production later in the year after its debut in Geneva. It will also be available in gas-powered variant. It should slot under Compass and Patriot. It is likely that most of the development of new Jeepster will be carried out in Italy. Possible competition: Kia Soul, Mini Countryman, and Nissan Juke.
