The Alfa Romeo 4C has lapped the Nurburgring in 8 minutes and 4 seconds, a new record for a car with under 250 bhp.
The Alfa Romeo 4C has a 1,750 cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, that develops 237bhp and 350Nm of torque. This engine is a tuned version of the unit found in the Giulietta.
Importantly, the 4C matches its biggest rival out on the ring, the Porsche Cayman S and is even 1 second quicker than a V8 BMW M3.
Critical to its record time around the ring is its carbon fibre construction. Making use of the lightweight material for its structure, which is usually seen on McLaren and Ferrari super cars, is a car that is both extremely light and strong, with a dry weight of 895Kg.
The 4C lapped the ring on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres, a much sticker compound than the regular P Zeros. However, these tyres are available direct from the factory and available for customers to purchase on their own 4C.
The Alfa Romeo begins at £45,000 unless you purchase one of the launch editions for £52,000. The launch edition has white or red paint, bronzed wheels, distinctive badging, extra carbon trim, bi-LED headlights and an aluminum diffuser with a shadow finish. 3,500 units will be built each year, with a selection coming to the UK. Orders are now open, with deliveries expected in 2014.
