VW debuts almost production ready concept the Beetle Dune at the 2014 Detroit Auto show.

Expand the range of its retro modern Beetle VW sees an opportunity to expand the Beetle range. VW claims that the Dune is almost production ready. Unlike the earlier introduce Dune concept at the 2000 Los Angeles Auto Show the present concept it like to make it to production in the near future.

Dune concept has a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine producing 207 bhp which it mated to 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox. It does 0 to 62mpf is 7.3 seconds

The dune is based on the current generation Beetle coupe. The suspension raise it by over 50 mm and a pair of bigger 19in alloy wheel s give it a more aggressive look.

The interior is more familiar with the regular beetles but with elements of ruggedness added to it. It does have a 7 inch touch screen infotainment system.

The aggressive look is given by large air intake and the huge LED fog lamp along with LED indicators. The bonnet is larger and includes air intakes on either side.

If VW launches the dune in market in the coming years it would help take the beetle brand into new market territories more in tune with its contemporary rival Mini and the Fiat 500L. it would bring in new customers for  the VW brand as it lacks models to compete with the new breed of cross over SUV. The Beetle dune would be an excellent addition to the beetle range.
